This past week, as thousands streamed into theaters to watch Oppenheimer and learn about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, let us also remember the bombing of Toyokawa Naval Arsenal. Toyokawa Naval Arsenal played a pivotal role in producing weapons for the Japanese Imperial Army. On August 7th, 1945, just a few weeks before the end of World War II, the US Air Force targeted the Toyokawa Naval Arsenal, devastating the city and killing around 2,500 citizens. To commemorate this tragedy and celebrate our 45th year of sisterhood with Toyokawa, the Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister Cities, Inc. has arranged the Bell Ringing for Peace Event on August 6 at 2 PM. Please join us at Memorial Park to ring bells, remember the lives lost, and spread the message of peace and love around the senbazuru, a tower of 1000 cranes. Please join us to reaffirm our commitment to a harmonious future.
